Comic Frank Carson Dies Aged 85

Belfast-born comedian Frank Carson has died aged 85 after suffering from poor health over the past 12months.

Carson best known for his catchphrases 'it’s a cracker' and 'it’s the way I tell em' passed away at his home in Blackpool, Lancashire.

The comedian who rose to fame after winning the peak-viewing national favourite talent show Opportunity Knocks had undergone an operation for stomach cancer last year but since that has said that his health had been a problem for some time.

His family's statement said the "husband, father, Gaga and comedian set off for his final gig today".

"He went peacefully at his home in Blackpool surrounded by his greatest fans - his extended family. We will be taking him home to Belfast to lay him to rest and celebrate his joyful life.

"It's quieter down here now. God help them up there!!"

Comic Legend Comes Home
Frank Carson's body has returned to Belfast. The comedian's open coffin was displayed in a funeral parlour where he grew up in north Belfast and family, friends and fans have been paying tributes. His funeral will be held at St Patrick's Church at 11.30am on Saturday. The 85-year-old died last Wednesday following a long battle with stomach cancer.

Belfast Approves Housing And Student Projects
Belfast City Council's Planning Committee has approved several significant development projects in the city. Two social housing developments have been given the green light, including the redevelopment of the former Havelock House on Ormeau Road and the transformation of the former Belfast Metropolitan College campus on Whiterock Road.

Investigation Launched Following Explosion In West Belfast
Police have launched an investigation following reports of a small explosion at a house in west Belfast. The incident happened in the Creeslough Court area of Lenadoon just after 8pm on Wednesday, 07 February. No injuries were reported and the investigation is ongoing. Sinn Fein Councillor Arder Carson condemned the attack.

Belfast Chosen To Host IAU World Championships
Belfast has been chosen to host the 12th International Association of Ultrarunners 24 Hour World Championships in 2017. The ultra running championships, which are held every two years, will be staged in Victoria Park in east Belfast on Saturday 1 July and Sunday 2 July, 2017.
