Maghaberry Searches Report Won’t Be Published

Justice Minister David Ford has refused to publish the findings of a Prison Service study into alternatives to body searches at Maghaberry. He said the report contained sensitive security and commercial information. But this has been dismissed as an excuse by the SDLP's John Dallat. "As an ordinary backbencher who asked the question on behalf of a constituent, I feel I have not been given the service I'm in entitled to," he said.

McAdam Design Bags £900k Contract

Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland, has announced the appointment of local company McAdam Design to develop proposals for the public areas around Belfast City Hall. The estimated cost of this design contract is £900,000. Minister McCausland said: "Today's announcement starts the process of engaging with key stakeholders and the general public about the high specification public realm that we want to create around our city hall. Following the successful completion of the improvement of the 14 streets in the main shopping area, we now have an opportunity to build on this by presenting Belfast City Hall as the jewel in the crown."

Derry Receives Jobs Boost

Londonderry glassware company Fire Glass Direct Ireland is to create 40 new jobs in a £1 million expansion plan. The company, which manufactures fire and safety glass, was established in 2004 and the cash injection means its workforce will be boosted to 77. The project at Fire Glass Direct Ireland has been supported by Invest NI's Jobs Fund, which aims to create 4,000 jobs by March 2014. Thirty-four of the planned 40 jobs have already been created.

Two Invest NI backed company expansions create 26 jobs
Two company expansions backed by Invest NI will help create 26 new jobs at two separate firms announced today. Fleming Agri-Products Ltd, based in New Buildings, Londonderry has announced a new £1 million expansion plan that is set to create 20 new jobs and Castle Glass in Castlederg will create six new jobs.

Terumo BCT To Create 416 New Jobs In Larne
First Minister Rt. Hon Peter D Robinson MLA and deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness MLA announced today that Terumo BCT, a global medical device manufacturer, plans to create 416 new jobs in Larne. Terumo BCT in Larne is headquartered in Lakewood, Colorado.

Maze Transformation Could Create 5,000 Jobs
Martin McGuinness has told the Assembly the transformation of the Maze prison site could create 5,000 jobs. The deputy First Minister has predicted £300m could be invested. The Royal Ulster Agricultural Society (RUAS) has confirmed it will be locating to the site, Mr McGuinness said.

NI Firm Secures New Premises In Dundalk
NI firm Almac has announced a multimillion investment in Dundalk, Co Louth. The Craigavon based firm has secured new premises at IDA Business Park to support its ongoing global expansion plans in response to increased client demand. The firm will also create an additional 100 jobs within the first two years.

Invest NI Meets 4,000 Jobs Target
Invest Northern Ireland’s Jobs Fund has exceeded its Programme for Government target to create 4,000 jobs by March 2014. The Jobs Fund was introduced in November 2011 with a target to create 4,000 jobs by March of this year and promote 6,300 jobs by March 2015.
