Men Injured As More Cars Stolen

Two men have been injured in separate carjacking incidents in West Belfast and Carrickmore.

Yesterday a man was struck in the face with a hammer as two men hijacked his car. It is believed the incident took place at about 17.00GMT on Norglen Parade. The victim's car was later found on fire on Rossnareen Avenue.

Meanwhile on Sunday another man was also injured as he was dragged from his car in County Tyrone.

The man was sitting in his car on Main Street when the driver's door was opened. An unknown man forcibly removed him from the car, leaving him bruised on his arm and neck. The stolen car is yet to be recovered.

These hijackings follow a statement from the police team concentrating on the recent spate of carjackings in the greater Belfast area.

In the statement PSNI Chief Superintendent Alan McCrum said it had been "pro-active" on the issue.

"We will continue to make arrests until we eventually manage to try and eradicate this scourge," he added.

"I want to reassure the community that no stone will be left unturned in doing everything possible to eradicate this scourge."
