Laganside reveals record year

The Laganside Corporation has reported its best ever year for investment.

According to the corporation’s annual report released on Tuesday, the year 2000 brought in around £10 million a month in investment projects in Belfast’s Laganside area.

Around 7,500 jobs were also created in a number of new developments. These included the establishment of offices by Fujitsu, Prudential and Halifax, who announced 1,800 jobs for its new call centre.

With most of the West Bank of the Lagan now completed the Corporation will now set its sights on transforming the East Bank, which covers a 17 hectare site.

Around 440 residential units have now been constructed within Laganside while the construction of 92 apartments at Donegall Quay and 118 apartments at Queen’s Quay, has already got under way.

The Laganside area now comprises prestigious office and residential developments including Lanyon Place, the Gasworks, Mays Meadow and the Cathedral Quarter. (MB)

Co Antrim Firm Wins New £10m Manufacturing Contract

It follows the news that the company won a £1.25m contract with Saudi company Rezayat Group in February. Good year for Tesco as profits top £1.6bn
It has been a good year for the supermarket retailer Tesco which has seen pre-tax profits soar to £1.6 billion, according to the group's full-year preliminary statement issued today. In addition to driving up pre-tax margins by 17.6%, the company said that it had slashed its debts by £600 million, down to £4.1 billion. In the UK, sales grew by 14.
