O'Neill Welcomes Kildalton Students
Agriculture Minister Michelle O'Neill has welcomed agricultural students from Kildalton College in County Kilkenny to Stormont.
The students are taking part in an exchange programme with agriculture students from the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE), which allows them to experience the different farming systems operated in the North and South.
Speaking after meeting the students the Minister said: "This is the fourth year of the exchange and is also the largest in terms of the number of students participating, which shows the ongoing commitment to fostering strong industry and educational links between agriculture students across Ireland."
As part of the programme, Final year Higher National Diploma students studying agriculture at Greenmount have swapped places with their Southern counterparts to study dairy and beef and sheep production systems in Kilkenny. The students from Kildalton are following a similar programme in the North and are undertaking a number of farm visits, workshops and seminars during their stay in Greenmount. The students will also be helping out with some routine practical duties on the College farm.

Northern Ireland pupils are in a class of their own
Northern Ireland students have outperformed their peers in England and Wales in both A-level and the new AS level exams. Figures released by the Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) on Thursday August 16 show a record 48,000 grades have been issued to Northern Ireland students across all exam boards.

Queen's welcomes overseas students
More than 50 overseas students arrived in Belfast at the weekend to take part in a three-week International Summer School at Queen's University. Now in its fourth year, the Summer School programme, entitled 'Ireland: Northern Perspectives', runs from 19 July to 6 August, and is coordinated by the Institute of Irish Studies at Queen's.

In his address to students, Martin McKendry, CAFRE Director welcomed Special Guest at the ceremony, Cormac McKervey, Head of Agriculture at the Ulster Bank.

Rise In Number Of GCSE Students Achieving A*- C Grades
There has been a significant increase in the number of GCSE students achieving the A*- C grades. The proportion of entries awarded A* - C grades has risen by 0.7% this year to 78.7% Education Minister, John O'Dowd, congratulated the students and said they should be proud of all their hard work.

College closes after masked men terrify students
A Further Education college in east Belfast has closed for the day after masked men terrorised students. The incident took place this morning in the Belfast Institute’s Tower Street Campus off the Newtownards Road when a group of people entered the building and issued sectarian threats to staff and students.
