Older Drivers Urged To Take Driving Lessons

Older drivers have been advised to take up driving lessons to refresh them on using motorways and roundabouts.

According to the Road Safety Authority anyone who feels uncertain about using high speed roads should take a handful of lessons to make them more confident.

It was revealed last year that driving on the wrong side of the motorway was a daily occurrence with up to 20 incidents a month taking place on a stretch of new motorway in Ireland.

Meanwhile it was also revealed recently that in 2010 in Northern Ireland, 106 people aged 65 and above were killed or seriously injured on our roads, including 26 pedestrians.

RSA Chief Executive Noel Brett said: "This changing road environment may pose challenges for some drivers who have no previous experience of driving on a motorway, using roundabouts or who may be put off by the high-speed and multiple lane nature of these routes."
