More Redundancies Announced
Twenty-one people in Northern Ireland have been made redundant and administrators have now been appointed to the commercial printer where they were employed.
Administrators have been appointed to Belfast printing firm Northern Whig, which ceased trading last week leaving its employees redundant.
The Northern Whig was originally one of Ireland's oldest newspapers. Founded in 1824, the Whig published continuously until it closed in 1963.
The name continued and has since operated as commercial printers, specialising in digital and lithographic printing and design.
It is understood that the company’s trading position deteriorated due to a declining turnover.
Meanwhile a flooring manufacturer based in Markethill, County Armagh, is also to make 36 employees redundant over the next six to eight weeks.
Unicorn Mouldings Ltd makes flooring for both the industrial and commerical/domestic markets.
The company said the redundancies were necessary "in order to secure the future for the remaining 22 employees".
