CowParade Comes To NI
Over 200 fibreglass cows are set to travel to Northern Ireland this year for a peculiar art showing.
CowParade a public art exhibition is set to come to the country this year and will see life-sized cow sculptures transformed into art work by local artists.
This will be the first time that the quirky exhibition will come to Northern Ireland. The cows will be on display from May this year and will remain in locations throughout the country until the end of the summer.
CowParade is the largest and most popular public art event in the world. It features life-size reinforced fibreglass cows that are painted by local artists and community groups, sponsored by local businesses, and displayed throughout streets, parks, and other public places for a period of three months.
At the conclusion of each event, the cows are auctioned at a moo-velous grand finale for the benefit of CowParade Charity Partners. The auction will also be available online.
Having taken place in over 50 worldwide host cities over a ten-year period, it is estimated that over 100 million people around the world have seen one of the famous cows.
More than £20 million has been raised for worldwide charitable organisations through the auction of the cows.
In Northern Ireland presenting partners are Belfast City Council, Derry City Council and ILEX, Derry’s regeneration company.
Organisers commenting on the website about the exhbit coming to NI said: "We are working hard to ensure that this CowParade will be groundbreaking: where else in the world would you see a Peace Line Cow painted through cross-community collaboration? Nowhere, I think you'll find..."
