New Initiative Tackles Illegal Dumping

A new initiative, which will try to tackle illegal dumping in Northern Ireland, has been revealed.

Environment Minister Alex Attwood has launched the new project and said that it will enable people to pass anonymous tips on to authorities about offenders.

Mr Attwood said: "Illegal waste is big business which threatens our environment, our health and our economy.

"Unscrupulous businesses are taking huge sums of money from all of us that could otherwise be used for schools, hospitals and roads.”

It is understood that the DOE will team up with the Crimestoppers charity and members of the public will be able to report fly-tippers without having to give out their personal information.
