Byrne Calls For Pro-Active Assistance For New Business
SDLP West Tyrone MLA Joe Byrne has asked the Enterprise Minister to consider the re-introduction of start-up grants for new Businesses particularly in the small and medium business sectors.
Mr Byrne made the call during questions to the Minister in the Assembly.
He said: "In the past new business start-ups had access to grant aid Finance and Bank finance.
"Owing to the banking crisis and the current economic recession bank loans for business start-ups are scant, so it is imperative that Invest NI provide help for new businesses.
"The SDLP, in our 2011 document ‘Partnership and Economic Recovery’ called for a Recession Recovery Fund of £5m worth of loans to be provided to small and medium sized businesses who are struggling to secure finance.
"I would regard the establishment of such a fund to be a key part of tackling the problems faced by start-ups in the current climate."
