Three injured in paramilitary-style attacks

Three men have been injured in separate paramilitary-style attacks in Northern Ireland over the weekend.

A 19-year-old man was taken to hospital in Craigavon with bullet wounds to his legs and hands. He was wounded in a paramilitary style shooting in the Legahory area of Craigavon at about 8pm on Sunday evening.

Earlier in Rathcoole, a 32-year-old man was attacked on the outskirts of Belfast around 6pm on Sunday. He is currently being treated in hospital and is suffering head, leg and arm injuries after six masked men beat him in the Ballyronan area of Rathcoole.

Meanwhile, later on Sunday night a 20-year-old man was attacked with a baseball bat around 12.30am in County Down. He was attacked at the rear of flats in the Parkhill area of Dromore, and is being treated in hospital for serious injuries to his leg and arms. (AMcE)

PSNI Attacked After Man Shot In Markets
A police officer has been hurt after coming under attack as part of a probe into the shooting of a man in the Markets area of Belfast. However, the officer only received minor injuries which are not thought to be life threatening and did not require hospital treatment.

Three Arrested In Connection With Stabbing Attacks
A man has been arrested after a 19-year-old was stabbed in Belfast city centre. The victim was stabbed in the High Street area at around 9.25pm on Thursday. He is believed to be in a serious but stable condition in hospital. The suspect was arrested a short time after the attack and is currently being questioned by the police.

SECOND PERSON DIES FROM FLESH-EATING INFECTION
HEALTH chiefs have said that there is no risk to the public following the death of a second person from a rare flesh eating infection at Craigavon Area Hospital. The Department of Health Social Services and Public Safety confirmed that a woman died from the disease two weeks ago.

Man And Woman Shot In West Belfast
A man and woman, aged in their 50s, have been shot in the legs in west Belfast. The attack happened at a house in Norglen Parade shortly after 6.15pm on Thursday, 12 January. The victims, understood to be husband and wife, were taken to hospital to be treated, however their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Heart Attacks Kill Six People In NI Every Week
Heart attacks kill six people in Northern Ireland every week, according to research by the British Heart Foundation (BHF). 314 people aged under 65 died from heart failure last year. In 2013/14, there were 5,400 heart attacks treated in Northern Ireland hospitals. This figure has risen from 4,600 the year before.
