Mother And Baby Rescued From House Fire
A mother and her baby have been rescued from a house fire in Glengormley.
The blaze broke out at Hollybrook Avenue at around 4.15am on Thursday.
The woman, who is believed to be in her late teens, lowered her baby through an upstairs window to a waiting neighbour.
The girl managed to alert her father who was sleeping downstairs at the time.
NIFRS Assiistant Group Commander David Hayburn said the fire developed quickly but was mainly confined to a downstairs hallway.
The woman and baby where taken to hospital but are not believed to be seriously injured.
SDLP Antrim Cllr Noreen McClelland said: "This fire could have easily claimed the lives of this young family and has undoubtedly caused much distress to all those involved.
"I would like to commend the swift action of their neighbour Mr Paul Lamb, who raised the alarm. He was able to rescue the baby and calm the mother, whilst the Fire and Rescue service could carry out their duties.
"I would like to commend those Fire officers who risked their safety to rescue young mother trapped on first floor. Thankfully the consequences of this fire were not more serious and both the mother and baby are well recovering in hospital."

Woman escapes injury as car plunges onto lough shore
A woman has escaped serious injury after her car plunged onto the shores of Carlingford Lough in Co Down on Thursday. The woman was travelling towards Warrenpoint at around 7.50pm when she was forced to swerve to avoid a horse and cart. The resulting swerve saw her car leave the road, overturn and land on its roof on the shore of the Lough.

Baby girl dies in road traffic accident
A child has been killed in a road traffic accident in Enniskillen. The baby girl, from the Republic of Ireland, was in a car with her two brothers, her childminder and her childminder's daughter, when it collided with a fire engine. The incident happened at around 11.20 am on the Derrylin Road in the town.

A mother and daughter have been rescued following a fire at their home in south Belfast. The incident happened at a property in Kirkistown Walk in the Belvoir area in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Firefighters attended the scene and led the mother and daughter to safety.

As firefighters were dealing with a blaze at Duncrue Industrial Estate this morning in Belfast, it has emerged that a possible fire tragedy was narrowly averted at a north Belfast private house overnight. In what was seen as a lucky escape for the occupants, the two people were rescued by neighbours following the house fire in Ligoniel.
