EasyJet to expand range of Belfast destinations

Economy airline company easyJet has revealed plans to expand the range of destinations on offer from Belfast which could see the introduction of a direct service to Paris and Malaga.

The airline’s Chief Executive, Ray Webster, announced the news during a visit to Belfast, saying that while he could not yet give precise details of the expanded timetable, increased flight frequencies and several new destinations were definitely going to be introduced as part of the company’s summer schedule for 2002.

Citing the popularity of easyJet’s Belfast-Amsterdam service, Mr Webster said that the company were “very serious” about their commitment to servicing the travel requirements of Northern Ireland. He added: “There is a list of options to consider out of Belfast but at this stage our focus is on routes to western Europe, and in the longer term eastern Europe.”

EasyJet has recently announced that it will be bringing forward the launch of its new services between Belfast International Airport and Scotland. Easyjet’s Glasgow service will now begin its one flight a day service on 18 August instead of beginning on 3 September. Flight frequency will also increase to four flights a day on 30 August, the same day their Edinburgh service begins.

The new route will pitch the low fare airline into a head to head battle with fellow budget airline Go and British Regional, both of which already operate flights from Belfast to Glasgow and to Edinburgh. (CL)
