NI Secretary of State pays tribute to RUC bravery
Northern Ireland Secretary of State John Reid has paid tribute to what he described as “RUC bravery” during the recent violence unrest in Belfast.
Speaking during a visit to the Police Rehabilitation and Retraining Trust (PRRT) at the Maryfield complex near Belfast, Dr Reid said that he had “no doubt” that the actions of the men and women of the RUC “prevented someone being killed on our streets last week”.
Dr Reid went on to praise the work of the PRRT, which helps to provide members of the RUC and the RUC Reserves with support and training both before and after they leave the service, as well as rehabilitating officers injured whilst on duty.
“Such support is vital and it is important that we never forget the great contribution made by police officers in the past, and also the great contribution they will make in the future,” said Dr Reid. (CL)
