New textile firm secures 320 jobs
Hundreds of jobs have been cemented in Northern Ireland’s troubled textiles industry following the move by a newly formed Ulster company to buy three textile County Antrim operations.
Arogan Limited, a company formed by management at Hicking Pentecost has acquired a dye works, a knitwear business and a stretch fabrics factory, that will secure 320 jobs.
Ballymena-based Arogan has bought Hicking Pentecost, a firm operating through two Northern Ireland divisions, from the Quantum Clothing Group based in Derbyshire.
The recent acquisition deal with Quantum means that Arogan now own Hicking Pentecost’s dye works in Ballymena and Ballymoney clothing manufacturer The British Textiles Manufacturing. Arogan has also acquired the trade and assets of the Ballymena division of stretch fabrics weaver Elastic Olympian that had gone into receivership.
The Ulster company is headed by Robert Francey who said that he was delighted about the recent additions to the company: “We are delighted in bringing The British Textiles Manufacturing Company and Hicking Pentecost (NI) back under Northern Ireland ownership.”
The news was warmly welcomed by trade minister Sir Reg Empey who said Arogan’s success was a boost for the north’s beleaguered textile sector. (AMcE)
