Educational initiative set to broaden students’ horizons
A contingent of Northern Irish students are set to jet off to the United States this week to take part in a new educational programme designed to further their horizons in terms of both culture and experience.
The Business Education Initiative (BEI), which has been organised by the Training & Employment Agency, will involve 165 students from the province’s colleges and universities. They will spend the next academic year at one of over a hundred US church colleges and affiliated universities.
It is hoped that the skills and experience they develop in the United States help to broaden their own career goals, and that many will go on to enter business and management related positions following the completion of their studies.
Minister for Employment and Learning, Dr Sean Farren, said: "I wish to congratulate all the students who have secured places on the Business Education Initiative and who are about to take up their places in United States colleges. In joining the Programme they are showing a willingness to seek educational and developmental opportunities beyond our shores.
“These opportunities will broaden their horizons and benefit not only themselves personally, but also the future of Northern Ireland." (CL)
