McIlroy set for new NI contract
The Irish Football Association is set to offer Northern Ireland international team boss Sammy McIlroy a new two-year contract.
Although the international side have lost their last six matches, McIlroy has impressed officials with the way has remoulded the squad. This has included the rebuilding of team morale following previous player-manager bust-ups.
McIlroy is expected to arrive in Belfast on Wednesday to thrash out a new deal with the IFA's international committee. IFA president Jim Boyce has already come out in favour of McIlroy.
On the eve of Northern Ireland's last game against the Czech Republic in Prague, Boyce voiced his opinion that he would like to see the former Macclesfield boss kept on.
McIlroy's current agreement expires in the autumn and a new deal would cover Northern Ireland's qualifying campaign for Euro 2004.
