Man Utd all set for Belfast
Manchester United are set to play Irish League Champions Linfield at Windsor Park on Tuesday 21 August.
However, the Blues are unlikely to face the Premiership Champions’ strongest side as the friendly comes just two days after United start the defence of the title against Fulham and 24 hours before they are due to face Blackburn Rovers.
It is expected that players such as David Beckham and Ryan Giggs will not figure in Belfast, however fringe players such as Fermanagh’s Roy Carroll, are likely to play.
Northern Ireland goalkeeper Carroll signed for United just a few weeks ago in a £2.5 million move from Wigna Athletic. He was signed as cover for current number one choice Fabian Barthez in the event of injury but is still likely to feature in some Premiership games this season.
Earlier in the summer Linfield were due to play UEFA Cup finalists Alaves in a friendly, however the game didn’t take place after the Spaniards double booked with Bolton Wanderers. (MB)

Sports United To Play Maze
The much debated super-sports stadium that has been proposed for the site of the old Maze Prison near Lisburn has moved a step closer. The GAA, the Irish Football Association and Ulster Rugby have all agreed to play games at the facility if and when it is built.

Lord Mayor Supports National Play Day
Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Kate Nicholl, has helped to launch the lead up to National Play Day on 04 August. This year's National Play Day theme is 'Summer of Play', celebrating children's right to play following a difficult 18 months of restrictions caused by the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Alliance Secures Action On Delivery of Inclusive Play Parks
Belfast City Council has agreed to begin work on the delivery of inclusive play across the city following a proposal from Alliance. Alliance Councillor Ross McMullan said no children should have the daily experience of exclusion from city and neighbourhood play parks.
