Jobs Fund 'Not Working'
Ulster Unionist Economy spokesperson, Mike Nesbitt, has expressed on-going concern that the Short Term Employment Scheme (now called the Jobs Fund) has created so few jobs in the Small and Medium Sized Enterprise sector of the Northern Ireland economy. The Strangford MLA was commenting on an oral answer from the Minister for Enterprise Trade and Investment during Question Time at the Northern Ireland Assembly: "Never mind people not working, it appears the Jobs Fund isn't working either," he said, yesterday.
Foul Play
Four dog owners have been fined in court. Seamus Walsh, from Upton Cottages in west Belfast, was fined £10 and ordered to pay costs of £66 for failing to have a licence for his dog. Andrew Mercer, from Ashfield Gardens in north Belfast, was fined £75 and ordered to pay costs of £66 for allowing his dog to foul at Grove playing fields on June 4, 2011. Paul Joseph McKenna, from Fairyknowe Park in Newtownabbey, Co Antrim, was fined £40 and ordered to pay costs of £66 for allowing his dog to stray at Bellevue Drive on May 14, 2011 and Aisling Magee, from Whiterock Crescent in west Belfast, was fined £40 and ordered to pay costs of £66 for allowing his dog to stray at Brittons Drive on June 16, 2011. The prosecutions were brought by Belfast City Council.
Cross Border Crime Probed
The Stormont Justice Minister David Ford will today attend the annual cross border seminar on Organised Crime with the Dáil Minister for Justice, Equality and Defence Alan Shatter. The PSNI Chief Constable Matt Baggott and An Garda Siochana Commissioner Martin Callinan will also be in attendance at City North hotel, Drogheda. The theme of this year's conference is 'a shared response to cross border organised crime'.

Three people have been fined for drinking alcohol in a public place. Matthew McQuillan, from St Agnes Drive in west Belfast, was fined £50 and ordered to pay costs of £66 after he was detected drinking alcohol at Glassmullin Gardens on July 3, 2011. David Craig, from Kilcoole Park in north Belfast, was fined £50 and ordered to pay costs of £66 after he was detected drinking at Woodvale Road on July 12, 2011 and Mark Hazzard, from Spamount Street, also in north Belfast, was fined £50 and ordered to pay costs of £66 after he was detected drinking alcohol at Crown Entry on June 16, 2011. The prosecutions were brought by Belfast City Council.

A man has been fined £100 and ordered to pay £200 compensation after his dog attacked and injured a woman. Stephen Thompson, from Dunraven Park in east Belfast, was also ordered to pay costs of £66 in relation to the incident, which happened on the Beersbridge Road on December 25, 2010. Three other dog owners were also fined in court.

Tesco Fined For Illegal Display Of Cigarettes
Supermarket chain Tesco has been fined after staff at one of its branches were caught displaying cigarettes to a person under the age of 18 years. The incident happened at its premises on the Belmont Road in April last year. The company was fined £500 and also ordered to pay £69 in costs to Belfast City Council, who brought the prosecution.
