Jaguar Drives West Midlands Employment

Car company Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has announced over 1,000 for the West Midlands area.

The company said the new posts will be based at the company's Land Rover plant in Solihull, which currently employs 5,000 people.

The recruitment campaign is now underway, JLR advertising for production operators and skilled trades people.

A spokesperson for the company said: "Fuelled by global ambition, Jaguar Land Rover is painting an impressive picture of success. With an incredibly diverse and enticing product mix, strong growth in key global markets, and some of the world’s most advanced manufacturing techniques, we’re building a promising future. And we want you to be part of it.

"If you are not an indentured/certificated engineering trade apprentice but you are interested in a production operator role in our cutting edge manufacturing facility, please apply to our recruitment partner - Manpower:"

The jobs are in support of the company's ambition to deliver "40 significant product actions over the next five years".

Des Thurlby, human resources director at JLR, said: "This is great news for Solihull. We shall be increasing the plant workforce by more than 25%.

"These jobs are well paid with great benefits. We provide high-quality training and development for all our employees and we expect to receive many thousands of applications."

JLR, were recently given a £10m grant by the government, while the company also recently revealed record sales in the UK, India and China.

Jaguar Sales Up In China
Top car brand, Jaguar Land Rover has recorded a 26 per cent increase in global retail sales for September 2011 with China delivering another record month with sales up 157 per cent for Jaguar and 85 per cent for Land Rover. China remains Jaguar Land Rover's third largest market with retails up 60 per cent for the year to September.

Land Rover UK, the Company’s largest market, has recorded the best ever month of sales in March 2010. Sales were up 67% on the same month last year selling over 11,300 vehicles and recording the highest sales for any month in the company's 62 year history.

Midlands Funding 'Good News'
Jaguar Land Rover has welcomed the news that the Midlands has been declared a low carbon economic area for advanced automotive engineering. The car manufacturer also hailed the £19.5m investment in a Low Carbon Vehicle Technology (LCVT) Programme, to promote the development of specialist low carbon engineering skills and vehicle technologies.
