CIS Insurance sponsor Irish League Cup
CIS Insurance has agreed a three-year deal to back the Irish League’s League Cup football competition.
It is believed that the insurance firm have promised a £70,000 plus package for the competition. During the first year the winners will earn £6,000, the beaten finalists £4,000 with the losing semi-finalists receiving £2,000 each.
The new competition will become known as the CIS League Cup. CIS, who also back the Scottish League Cup, take over from previous sponsors Coca-Cola.
Football chiefs have introduced regional groups for this season's competition, hoping to create greater interest through more local derby matches and less travelling.
It is hoped that this latest financial package will be a catalyst in resurrecting the fortunes of local football which is continually under pressure to attract more fans to the game.
This year’s final is scheduled for Tuesday 27 November. (MB)
