Strike Action Looms At Troubled Aviva
Under threat staff at Aviva who are members of the UNITE union have voted in favour of industrial action if jobs are put at risk or relocation measures are started ahead of any agreement with staff.
The insurer announced two weeks ago that it was to cut 950 jobs in Ireland and potentially outsource a further 300.
UNITE Regional Director Brian Gallagher said any attempt to implement restructuring announced by Aviva's London office, without agreement with Irish staff, would result in industrial action.
He told RTE that the ballot for industrial action was passed by over 90%.
But the CEO of Aviva Ireland Dermot Browne said plans, which are in the proposal stage, are still subject to Irish and UK board approval and that change takes time - but added that the company is committed to engagement and discussion with staff.
