Police hunt for sex attacker

Detectives have issued an urgent appeal for information about a woman who suffered a sex attack at knifepoint in her home in County Down.

The victim, who is in her early 30s, was subjected to the attack at her home in Victoria Road, Bangor. The woman was woken by a man in her bedroom who was armed with a kitchen knife at about 4.30 am on Sunday August 19.

The man threatened her with the kitchen knife before subjecting her to a serious sexual assault. The man also punched the woman in the head during the attack.

Police said the woman described her attacker as 25 - 30 years of age, wearing blue jeans, a grey fleece and a blue baseball cap. He also had a distinctive haircut. Detectives at Bangor Royal Ulster Constabulary station have urged anyone with information about the attack to contact the police station. (AMcE)

Homeowner slashed with knife during robbery
A man has been injured in a knife attack during a robbery at his home in Co Tyrone last night. George Burke was in his remote cottage when a woman called at his door around midnight on Tuesday screaming that a baby had been injured in a road accident. When Mr Burke opened the door he was attacked by two men who pinned him to the floor.

Man arrested after woman dies in collision
A 61-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal road accident in County Down. A woman, believed to be in her 50s, was hit by a vehicle on the Comber Road in Newtownards at about 9.45pm last night. The victim’s name has not yet been released.

Man Shot In Co L'Derry
A man has been shot in the ankle in Co L'Derry. The paramilitary-style attack happened near the Creggan shops at around 7.45pm on Thursday, 07 December. The 41-year-old man has been taken to hospital to be treated, however his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. Police described the shooting as "brutal and horrific".

Man arrested in connection with burglary attack
Police have arrested a man in connection with an attack on a woman at her home in Co Antrim. The woman, who is in her 50s, was attacked during a robbery at her Pond Park home in Lisburn at about 5am on Thursday. She was taken to hospital where she was treated for two fractured cheek bones.

Police Were Justified In Using Taser - Ombudsman
Police were justified in using Taser during four incidents which involved knives, according to the Police Ombudsman. Three of the incidents involved people self-harming, and in the other, officers feared a knife would be used against them. Dr Michael Maguire found that the use of Taser had in each instance been lawful, necessary and proportionate.
