Government begins consultation on school prospectus information
The Department of Education is inviting comment on the information which schools are required to provide by law in prospectuses and in Board of Governors’ Annual Reports.
Launching the consultation process, Education Minister Martin McGuinness said: “When I announced earlier this year that School Performance Tables would no longer be published, I promised a review of the information to be contained in school prospectuses to ensure that parents continue to receive adequate information on the performance of individual schools.
“I would encourage all concerned to make their views known by responding to the consultation.”
The review will also offer an opportunity to streamline information requirements with a view to minimising the bureaucratic burden on schools.
Separate documents published for primary and post-primary schools have been widely circulated to schools and other interested bodies. The closing date for receipt of responses is 31 October 2001.
The consultation invites comment on whether existing information requirements should be retained, or reclassified as optional for inclusion.
The Department of Education has proposed that a small number of new information requirements be introduced which it is considered would be of interest to parents.
Copies of the primary and post-primary consultation documents may be obtained from the Department of Education. (SP)
