Police appeal for information on two sex attacks

Northern Ireland police have appealed for information following two sex attacks on young girls over the weekend.

In Coleraine County Londonderry a young girl was attacked and sexually assaulted just after 9:00pm on Sunday. The teenage girl was walking in a playground area close to Kylemore nursery when a man attacked her. The man was wearing a black hooded jacket and white training shoes. Police said that the attacker ran off in the direction of the Creeve area of the town.

In Cookstown County Tyrone a 10-year-old-girl was sexually assaulted at around 8:00pm on Saturday in the Coolnafranky area of the town. Police described the attacker as being between 35 and 50-years-old, about five feet seven inches tall, of average build, with short grey hair and a moustache. He was wearing a gold sleeper earring with a gold ball attached. He was dressed in blue jeans covered in what is thought to be cement, dirty brown boots and a blue round-necked top. (SP)

Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

Concerns grow about missing Greenisland girls
Police in Carrickfergus say they are increasingly concerned about the safety of two teenage girls who have not been seen since Thursday August 22. Samantha McDonald and Michelle Collins, who are both aged 15 and from the Greenisland area, were last seen at 8pm at the Shore Road home of one of the girls.

New Programme To Inspire Girls To Pursue Maths
A new programme to inspire girls in Northern Ireland to continue their pursuit of maths has been launched by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and professional services firm PwC. The aim of the Maths4Girls programme is to increase engagement and interest levels of girls aged 11-14 in maths because this opens-up high-impact STEM-related careers.

Woman Sexually Assaulted In Omagh
Police have appealed for information after a 24-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in Omagh. The attack is thought to have happened in a walkway in the Johnston Park area between 1am and 3am on Sunday (30 November). Detectives want to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time, or who may be able to assist the investigation.

Two assaulted in separate weekend attacks
Six people have been questioned in connection with an assault on a man in County Antrim at the weekend. Two women and four men were arrested yesterday, after a 29-year-old was attacked in the Castlemara Crescent area of Carrickfergus in the early hours of Saturday morning.
