Trade union strength continues to grow
A recent survey carried by leading UK law firm DLA has warned that a revival in the strength of trade unions risked a surge in UK industrial unrest.
Solicitors at the firm revealed that there has been a marked increase over the past year in the number of ballots for industrial action and the number of days lost to strikes.
This trend, they said, reflected a shift in the balance of industrial power from bosses to unions.
Most unions surveyed by the DLA forecast a rise in industrial and warned that industrial relations in the UK were set to face a "bumpy ride".
However, the report’s author, David Bradley, said that while he did not envisage anything like a return to the environment of the 1970s and 1980s, it was clear that unions had recovered some of the influence lost during the Thatcher years.
