Theatre Members Accept Pay Deal

Union members working in regional theatres across the UK have voted narrowly to accept changes to pay and conditions for the period 2010/11.

In the consultative ballot which closed on Friday, 53 per cent of those voting accepted the deal while 47 per cent of colleagues voted against.

The development is the latest phase in a protracted set of talks which saw members reject proposals for a modest pay award with strings in November 2010 and February 2011.

The Theatrical Management Association, which is the employers' body for the 200 plus regional venues affected, is required to ratify the agreement in light of the members' decision, a process which can take up to two weeks.

BECTU reps will come together in London to discuss the ballot result, comment from members and other issues affecting regional theatres, on Tuesday 13 September.
