New £14m theatre set to open in Derry
The province’s largest theatre is set to open its doors on Friday evening.
The £14 million purpose-built Millennium Forum is the north’s largest playhouse and the project’s backers promise a wide variety of entertainment is in store for theatre-goers in the north west.
The programme is shaping up to include drama, pantomimes, ballet and musicals many attractions will offer content from the local community.
While the finishing touches were under way at final rehearsals for the acts appearing on Friday afternoon, the final fruition of the project has been a long time in the planning stage. But with the investment of £14 million in the Millennium Forum the theatre is expected to bring top acts, the best in theatre, and provide a showcase for the talent in the north west region.
Pianist Phil Coulter welcomed the theatre development as he said a city the size of Derry deserved its own state-of-the-art theatre. (SP)
