Man Hurt As Kidnap Bid Fails
Detectives are appealing for information after a report of an assault at Edward Street, in the south Belfast area in the early hours of this morning.
A police spokesperson said that, at around 20 minutes past midnight, it was reported that a man was approached at a car park in the area by three unknown masked men.
It is believed the man was handcuffed, assaulted and an attempt was made to bundle him in the rear of a silver coloured vehicle.
The statement said that he was later able to free himself and the victim attended hospital for injuries to his hand and head.
It is also believed that the man lost a number of teeth during the incident.
At this stage, the man's injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
The PSNI statement concluded: "Anyone who has any information is asked to contact Musgrave Street CID on 0845 600 8000.
"Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111."

Man Released On Bail Over Lurgan Murder
A man arrested in connection with a murder in Lurgan on Sunday, 06 August, has been released on bail pending further enquiries. The body of a man, aged 45, was discovered at a flat on Victoria Street. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Man Injured In Shooting Incident In Garvagh
An investigation has launched following reports that shots were fired in the centre of Garvagh at around 3am on Sunday, 10 December. Police received a report in the early hours of Sunday morning that three shots had been fired in the Main Street area of the town. The PSNI believes that one of the shots injured a 46-year-old man in his lower leg.
