PayPal Creates 200 Jobs In Dublin

Global online payments firm PayPal has announced plans to create another 200 jobs at its European Centre of Excellence in Blanchardstown, Dublin.

The new roles are in addition to the 350 extra jobs created since 2009 and will support PayPal's fast growing European business which contributed to PayPal recently achieving its first global $1 billion revenue quarter in the second quarter of the year.

PayPal currently employs more than 1.350 people at its Blanchardstown site. The announcement offers further opportunities for permanent positions in customer service, risk operations, financial operations, sales and account management for individuals fluent in English and a second European language.

Louise Phelan, VP for Global Customer Services & EMEA Merchant Services, PayPal European Operations, said: "I am proud to announce these 200 new positions for PayPal's Centre of Excellence in Dublin. PayPal has grown substantially in Ireland since it began here in 2003 and this is the second new jobs announcement we've had this year alone. This announcement is a testament to the excellent work and commitment of our current employees. We have gone from strength to strength since the officially opened our Centre of Excellence here in Blanchardstown two years ago. I would also like to thank the IDA for their continued support."

Welcoming the announcement, Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton TD said: "If Ireland is to get out of this crisis and get jobs growing again, we must build determinedly on our existing strengths as an economy. One key aspect of this is our base of world-leading Internet companies who have established major operations here. My plan is to get people back to work includes relentlessly building on this success in order to ensure the maximum job-creation benefit to our economy.

"PayPal, an industry-leading company which will soon employ well over 1,550 people in Dublin, represents a prime example. I am determined that Government will do everything possible to ensure that today's very welcome announcement can be replicated right across the country in the coming years."

PayPal's European Operation Centre opened in Dublin in 2003. Since then, the number of staff has increased from just 25 to more than 1,350 today. In 2009, the company announced an investment of €15 million to support the development of a European Centre of Excellence in Blanchardstown. The Dublin centre manages all direct customer contact for PayPal's businesses across Europe.
