Derry Bids For Top Architectural Prize
A building in Londonderry that literally rose form the ashes has become the first in Northern Ireland to be shortlisted for the prestigious Stirling Prize.
Culturlann Ui Chanain cost £4m and has already been awarded prizes for its architecture. It opened in September 2010 as an Irish language centre teaching traditional music, dance and language.
The building on Great James Street was built on the site of a burnt-out bakery.
It was designed by Dublin-based architects O'Donnell and Tuomey and is in one of the city's most historic areas.
The building is one of six UK finalists on the Royal Institute of British Architects' shortlist.
The final result will be revealed in October and the winning architect will get a prize of £20,000.

Belfast's new James Connolly visitor centre on the Falls Road, Áras Uí Chonghaile. has been named Northern Ireland's Building of the Year. The Royal Society of Ulster Architects (RSUA) presented the Liam McCormick Prize to the centre, which was designed for Fáilte Feirste Thiar (Visit West Belfast) by McGurk Architects.

BCC Consultation On Draft Irish Language Policy
Belfast City Council has announced a new public consultation on their new draft Irish language policy. The draft policy sets out how the council plans to promote Irish and use Irish across its services, including interpreting and translation, key documents and publications, signage at facilities, on the council website belfastcity.gov.

A new £18m theatre in Belfast has been short-listed for the 2012 Stirling Prize in architecture. The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) put the new Lyric Theatre in the running for the £20,000 prize, alongside London's Olympic Stadium and Maggie's cancer centre in Glasgow.
