John D'Arcy's 'Barcelona Tales' Launched
Local singer songwriter John D'Arcy is preparing for the release of his summer single, Barcelona, this July based on his sunny adventures with music and good-looking people.
The new single was written about a trip to the Primavera Sound Music Festival - a three day extravaganza of rock and pop music in the Basque city, which had a major effect on the local born artist.
"It was the best music festival I have ever been to. There were so many great bands that I didn’t get to sleep for four days! It was Glastonbury, without the mud - and with a lot more good looking people," John said.
The single will be launched at Head Records in Victoria Square Belfast, at 2pm on Saturday 30 July. D’Arcy will be playing live with his band, The Great Bunch of Lads (consisting of Chris Bateman and Thomas Camblin) and will be supported by the hotly tipped Southern and slightly off-the wall Doctor Lilt.
The single is John's second release on Terri Hooleys’ legendary Good Vibrations record label, which also famously launched the first Undertones single, Teenage Kicks.
Barcelona is the follow up to D'Arcy's 2010 single Get Over Yourself and is another catchy power pop tune with the punk energy Good Vibrations became famous for.
And, to get into the holiday spirit, the single will be accompanied by two dance remixes of the track, created by electronic artists Doctor Lilt and Tape Jack.
Speaking about the remixes, D'Arcy said: "I've been listening to a lot of electronic music recently and thought it would be great to have two remixes of Barcelona for the B-Sides of the single. They both have a unique take on the track – the Tape Jack mix is downbeat and heavy, while the Doctor Lilt mix is glitchy and trippy, it’s bonkers really!"
The original song, however, was produced by Rocky O’Reilly at the Start Together Studio in the Oh Yeah Music Centre in Belfast. Rocky's name also graced the incredibly successful release of critically acclaimed Northern Irish bands And So I Watch You From Afar and Mojo Fury, so big things are expected.
Barcelona will be available on CD and to download from: www.johndarcy.com, or you can find out more about John D'Arcy from http://johndarcy.com/press.html.
John appears on Saturday 23 July at the Glasgowbury music festival at Eagles Rock, and on Saturday 30 July at Head Records in Victoria Sq Belfast at 2pm for his single launch.
