Dublin Rail Station 'On Track'
The first phase of the proposed Hansfield train station in west Dublin is expected to start this year, following outline agreement by all the parties involved. This will see the construction of a car parking facility on the site.
The Dáil Minister for Transport, Tourism & Sport and Dublin West, Leo Varadkar has said that access works for the facility in now 'on track' with the whole station ready to open around July 2012.
"I am happy to confirm that I met again with all parties and we now have an outline plan to get the station opened next year, by early summer.
"The first step involves amending the Strategic Development Zone plan for the Hansfield area, to allow for the car park to be provided. This amendment is now on public display.
"It's expected that councillors will vote on this matter in September," he said, noting that, if it is approved, Irish Rail has agreed to submit its planning application for the car park the following day.
"I am strongly encouraging all members on Fingal County Council to act swiftly on this matter and facilitate a rapid start on this vital project."
