'Suspicious Vehicle' Sparks Glengormley Security Alert

A security alert is continuing in Newtownabbey, following reports of a suspicious vehicle in the Ballyclare Road area on Friday (July 8).

Army technical officers are attending the scene.

The Ballyclare Road, near the entrance to Glengormley Park remains closed, as well as the junction of Portland Avenue and Ballyclare Road.

Residents living in Hillview Drive and Linview Mews have been evacuated from their homes.

An eyewitness at the scene has reported hearing a minor blast in the area, which they believed to be an Army bomb squad robot using a robot-mounted shotgun on the suspect car.

Police have confirmed that a number of controlled explosions have been carried out.

Motorists have been advised to avoid the area.
