£1.5 million Golden Cow investment to provide 37 new jobs

Golden Cow, the Portadown-based Golden Vale subsidiary, is to invest £1.5m in the manufacture of new cheese snack products in a business growth strategy that is expected to provide 37 new jobs over the next three years.

Making the announcement alongside Golden Cow Factory Manager, Dr Ann Malley, Lawson McDonald, Acting Deputy Chief Executive, Industrial Development Board (IDB) said: “This project has been born out of Golden Vale’s R&D strategy and will strengthen the company’s position within this important and progressive food processing business.

“This is a significant diversification for Golden Cow into the fast growing convenience food and children’s snack markets and involves the production of new products using an innovative form of re-sealable packaging for retail customers in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland.

“The project is another substantial endorsement of Northern Ireland as an important European food processing centre by one of the industry’s leading players. It follows on from the investment in a new greenfield activity in Enniskillen for Rye Valley Foods and in the creation of a Centre of Excellence for cheese product development and manufacturing at DPP in Coleraine.”

Echoing these comments, Dr Malley said that the company’s move into these new value-added products was an important strategic development that positioned the group at the forefront of the cheese-based convenience food sector. (MB)
