3D Experience Without Glasses For Northern Ireland Sports Fans
Belfast bar Lavery's will screen the heavyweight 'super-fight' between David Haye and Vladimir Klitschko and the Wimbledon men's final on a glasses-free 3D TV over a 3D sports weekend on July 2 - 3 2011.
The 3D TV technology is provided by iPONT International, an innovator and technology is provided by iPONT International, an innovator and technology partner in the glasses-free 3D market, which will bring a new immersive 'live' sports experience to Northern Irish fans.
Bernard Lavery said: "The tension has been building over the months ahead of the blockbuster Haye vs Klitschko fight and promises to be one of the biggest fights for years. To be the first and only bar in Ireland to bring this heavyweight unification bout in 3D without the need for glasses is going to be an amazing spectacle.
"And the glasses-free 3D TV sports action doesn't stop there as Laverty's will also be showing the men's Wimbledon final, in what has been one of the most open tournaments in years."
iPONT International and HD Source, the leading Northern Ireland AV installer for the entertainment sector, will install a 42" wide-angle auto-stereoscopic (glasses-free) LCD display with an iPONT 3D TV Box, a proprietary set-top box that streams real-time 3D broadcast content from a Sky+ HD satellite decoder in Laverys' Back Bar.
The auto-stereoscopic LCD displays are available in 27" to 65" and provide vibrant pixel-perfect detail from a rich colour palette with no image 'ghosting'. The 3D LCD display can be viewed in daytime conditions and features a viewing cone of 120° mirroring the same conditions a TV set is used in the home.
iPONT's 3D TV box technology, available as a set-top box, converts any live 3D broadcast signal into real-time auto-stereoscopic one for use on glasses-free 3D TVs and displays. The 3D TV box can handle Internet, satellite, cable and terrestrial services that stream 3D content directly into the home or business.
Matthew Young, Director iPONT UK, commented: "The first public showing of iPONT's without-glasses 3D TV technology took place at Walkabout, Covent Garden, London on May 28, 2011 for the UEFA Champions League Final between FC Barcelona and Manchester United to an invited-audience of press and public.
"The reaction from people that night was phenomenal and I'm confident Lavery's patrons will feel the same way when they see the fight and tennis this weekend - most will not have seen a sports broadcast like this before and many will be thrilled by the prospect of seeing all future sporting events this way."
Robert McDonell, Director of HD Source and the installer of the 3D technology for the event, added: "Lavery's is Belfast's most illustrious bar and the Back Bar is going to be rocking on Saturday night - HD Source has been working with Lavery's for a few years now and together we aim to drive the entertainment experience above and beyond our customers' expectations. In among those is the iPONT's 3D TV which promises to bring the 3D realism of ringside and front-row seats for the biggest sporting events this year."
The 'without glasses' 3D TV will be at Lavery's, 12-18 Bradbury Place, Belfast BT7 1RS from Saturday July 2-3 in Lavery's Back Bar.
