Road Works Underway In South Belfast
Construction workers are to commence a number of major resurfacing schemes on the A55 Stockman's Lane and A55 Balmoral Avenue, Belfast over the summer months.
The first starts today, with work on the Stockman's Lane scheme, which runs from the Stockman's Lane Roundabout to just beyond the junction with Boucher Road, as part of a nine-week construction programme.
Initial works are programmed adjacent to the main road until after the July holidays when the focus of activity will then switch to the main carriageway.
It is planned that most of the work on the main carriageway of Stockman's Lane will take place throughout the night, although road closures may be required to complete the resurfacing works.
The Balmoral Avenue scheme, which runs from its junction with the Lisburn Road to its junction with Harberton Avenue, is due to start on the 25th July with a six-week construction programme.
Lane closures will be required for these works, but one traffic lane will be kept open in each direction at all times. Again, towards the end of the construction programme, road closures may be required to complete the resurfacing works.
These schemes, which are being undertaken to improve the safety and strength of the road have been largely programmed for the summer months when traffic should be at its lightest.
The timing of the works has been co-ordinated with the recent completion of the excavation work by Northern Ireland Water, and Roads Service has carefully programmed the works operations and the traffic management arrangements in order to minimise any inconvenience to the public.
Whilst every effort will be made to progress the works as quickly and efficiently as possible, motorists should be aware that some delays may be expected and that additional time should be allowed when planning any journeys.
