Man Critical As Irish Road Toll Rises
A man is understood to be in a critical condition following a serious road crash near Antrim.
The victim was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries following a collision at Dunsilly Road, a part of the main road betwen Antrim and Ballymena, in County Antrim.
The news from Northern Ireland comes as the Irish police in Kerry and Wicklow are separately investigating the circumstances of two fatal road traffic collisions that took place earlier this week and after two people died in separate road accidents in NI earlier this week.
Gardai in Killorglin, County Kerry reported the collision at Castlemaine occurred at approximately 10.45pm on the Castlemaine to Firies Village road (R561).
Two cars were involved in the collision and a female, 75, passenger in one of the cars was seriously injured in the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Both drivers were also injured and were taken to Tralee General Hospital. Their injuries were described as serious but stable.
Meanwhile Gardai in County Wicklow are investigating a fatal road traffic collision on the N81 at Hempstown, Blessington.
The two car crash occurred at about 8.30pm on Tuesday. A 41-year-old man, the driver of one of the cars, was fatally injured in the collision. The man was pronounced dead at Naas General Hospital.
The driver of the other car a man in his 20s was taken to Naas General suffering from minor injuries. The roadway at the scene of the crash has re-opened following an examination of the scene by Garda forensic collision investigators.

It is believed he was originally from Slovakia and worked in the area. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Mr Caddell, 22, died following the two-vehicle collision involving a car and a lorry on Monday, 10 April. The incident happened on the Manse Road at around 10.50am. Police are appealing for witnesses to contact them.
