Carrick Joins Forces

'Authentic' Norman soldier, William McClean, is pictured getting in some early rehearsals for the town's forthcoming celebrations to mark Armed Forces Day on Saturday 25 June …. and terrifying passers-by with echoes of 'Horrible History'. The historic garrison town of Carrickfergus will be the focus of Northern Ireland's regional contribution to a UK-wide programme of special events. Road Tragedy

A 49-year-old man has died following a road accident in Co Antrim on Thursday. As reported on www.4ni.co.uk yesterday, it happened on the Ballymena Road near the Dunsilly Roundabout at about 12.30pm. The man's name has not been released and the police have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.

Belfast Fraud Convicted

A man was convicted at Ballymena Magistrates' court this week for claiming benefits he was not entitled to. Trevor Flynn (37) of Lomond Avenue, Belfast claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £2,595 while failing to declare employment. He was given a conditional discharge for two years and ordered to pay court costs of £97. He will also have to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency. Canada Day 'Rocks Belfast'

Canada Day will be given the rock treatment in Belfast on Friday July 1, with a special celebratory gig in the city centre. Canada Day Rocks will see five bands take the stage in the Front Page in Donegal Street. Headlined by popular rising local rockers Last Known Addiction, the gig also will see a return to Belfast by Dublin's Shoctopus. The bill will be completed by young metallers Warcrux, Sons Of Encouragement and Crazy Dave. Doors open 8pm and admission is £5 (£3 for members of Hard Rock Hell). Canadian citizens get in free on production of their passport.

Cave Hill Rescue Operation As Woman Slips On Rocks
A specialist rescue team was deployed to Belfast's Cave Hill on Tuesday 01 January after a walker slipped on the rocks and suffered an injury. Fire and Rescue Service personnel, working alongside the Ambulance Service, North West Mountain Rescue Team and the PSNI managed to bring the woman, aged in her 50's, to safety.

Six-year-old escapes injury after north Belfast hi-jacking
A six year-old girl has been left badly shaken after car thieves ordered her out of her father's car before stealing it last night. The girl was waiting in the blue Mazda 626 outside a shop on the Cliftonville Road in north Belfast, at around 8.30pm, when the incident happened.

Nationalists Hit Out At West Belfast Bonfire
Nationalist politicians have hit out at a bonfire that was erected in west Belfast, after it caused a daycare centre for vulnerable adults to be closed. "Anti-social behaviour" at the 'anti-internment' bonfire at Beechmount Drive is thought to have led to the closure of the Mica Day Centre.
