The Body Shop is rewarded for customer focus
The Belfast branch of The Body Shop has won a prestigious business award that marks it out as one of the province’s most customer-focused retailers.
The Friendly Business Awards, organised by the Junior Chamber of Trade, aims to recognise and reward businesses throughout the province who have made an outstanding effort to cater for the needs of their customers.
Retail Director of The Body Shop, Dermot Kelly, was delighted to receive the top accolade, which was bestowed at a ceremony in Omagh on Saturday 22 September.
The decision to present The Body Shop with the award came after a period of assessment, including a ‘mystery shopper’ assessment where ‘undercover’ judges visited retail outlets to rate the services on offer. Points were scored according to the provision of such aspects of customer care as first impressions, product knowledge and disabled access.
The Body Shop was founded by entrepreneur Anita Roddick who in 1976 started retailing home-made naturally-inspired products with minimal packaging. The Body Shop rapidly evolved from one small shop in Brighton on the South Coast of England, with only around 25 hand-mixed products on sale, to a worldwide network of shops.
The company's campaigns against human rights abuses, animal testing and environmental destruction have seen the firm create a niche ‘image’ in the beauty industry and the company continues to encourage businesses to use their voice for social and environmental change. (CL)
