Mivan Completes Hat Trick Of Cruise Ships

Northern Ireland-based outfitting specialist Mivan continues its success in the cruise ship market having recently completed £6m of interiors work on the Grand Princess, Crystal Serenity and P&O Adonia.

Work on the larger of the projects, the Grand Princess began in mid April at the Grand Bahamas Shipyard and was completed over a 24 day period.

This has been the most extensive drydock in Princess Cruises' history with over 1400 contractors working around the clock. Mivan's £3m extensive scope of work included refit of the Casino Bar, the strip out of the restaurant, wedding chapel, business & reception centres, manager's office & boutiques, and the installation of a new steakhouse restaurant, Main & Show galleys, Tea House and Library.

Mivan also completed an upgrade to some of the Spa areas of the ship. This is the second ship within as many years that Mivan has refitted for client Princess Cruises having completed work on the Golden Princess in 2009.

In May, the company undertook refits to the P&O Adonia & Crystal Serenity. The Adonia is a new addition to the P&O Cruises fleet, having been previously called the Regal Princess under the Princess Cruises Brand. Based at the Grand Bahamas Shipyard; Mivan refurbished the cabins and public areas. The adult only Adonia will begin sailing this month and is the smallest ship in the P&O Cruises fleet.

The Crystal Serenity fit-out is Mivan's first contract with Crystal Cruises. The scope of work was undertaken at Blohm & Voss Shipyard, in Hamburg and included refits to various retail units, conversion of a store room to office and dining room lighting upgrade.

Stephen Mills, Business Development Director at Mivan said "The completion of these projects within such a short time frame demonstrates the capability of Mivan to continually deliver within the Cruise Ship sector. We are delighted to continue to work with long standing clients P&O and Princess Cruises, whilst establishing a new relationship with Crystal Cruises."

Alastair Hamilton, Chief Executive of Invest NI added: "This is yet another positive development for an internationally respected construction company. Despite the downturn, which has impacted significantly on the wider construction industry, Mivan has successfully looked to international market sectors, including cruise ship fit out and refurbishment, and is continuing to grow its market share. I hope that Mivan's ability to diversify continues to pay dividends and helps to encourage other firms to seek out new business opportunities."

The Mivan Group is one of the world's leading specialist construction companies and celebrated its 35th anniversary last year. With offices in the UK, Europe, USA, Africa and the Middle East, Mivan has completed Interiors & Theming, Property Development & General Contracting projects in around 40 countries. Mivan currently employs around 390 people worldwide.
