Belfast Lord Mayor Hosts 'Flash Parade'

This year's Lord Mayor's Parade will take place in Belfast on Saturday June 18 with Queen cover band Flash Harry featuring among the attractions.

The parade begins at Writers’ Square, opposite St Anne Cathedral, at 12 noon before move along Royal Avenue and Donegall Place. It will finish at the City Hall, where a Global Café will be set up in the grounds.

The new Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Niall Ó Donnghaile, (pictured with helpers at the event's launch today) said: "I am delighted and honoured to be selected as first citizen for this great city and I invite everyone to come along and join me on 18 June to celebrate all that is good and great about Belfast.

"Exciting but challenging times lie head and I am looking forward to playing my part with a fresh and optimistic approach.

"In my new role as Mayor, I wish to present Belfast to the eyes of the world as a more confident, prosperous and aspirational place to be and the theme of this year’s parade clearly reflects that," he said.

The Global Village in the City Hall will give attendees the chance to taste a range of produce from Northern Ireland and around the world, with fusion cuisine from curries to crepes and sausages to salsa.

Crowds can also expect multi-cultural entertainment with many hundreds of participants, including a troupe of Jai Ho Indian dancers, Eastern European dancers in traditional costume along with Irish, English, Scots and Welsh talent.

Citybeat Radio will be media partners for the event, broadcasting live from the city centre action on 18 June.

The broadcasters' presenters will host a live stage at the City Hall where headline act Flash Harry will be playing the best of Queen.

Other planned events include West African Djembe drumming, Bollystreet Dancing, Chinese Lion and Ribbon Dancing to Dhol Drumming and Latin Beats along with a range of family attractions.
