New construction careers guide published

A new guide to construction careers has been published by GTI Specialist Publishers in partnership with CITB, the Construction Confederation and the Construction Industry Council.

Target 16+ Construction, which replaces the Construction Careers Handbook, takes a new look at what young people from 14 years old and beyond need to know about careers in construction. Sections include in-depth case studies on architects, civil engineers, project managers estimators, quantity surveyors and housing officers, amongst others, as well as advice on college and university courses, work experience and sponsorship.

The publication has had significant support from the industry, and carries details about 68 contractors and consultants, FE colleges, universities and professional organisations.

CITB head of careers, education and training development, Kate Howard, commented: “We went right back to basics with Target 16+ Construction and had a good look at what young people really need to know.

“It emphasises the huge variety of career opportunities there are, but it also highlights how exciting and fulfilling a career in construction is - where creativity makes a real difference to the world around us.” (CL)
