Woman Faces Charges Over Kilkeel Murder
Following the murder of a man from Ukraine that shocked a fishing port in Co Down at the weekend, the PSNI has charged a woman with assisting offenders.
The 32-year-old, Lineta Kundrotiene of Ronney Park, Kilkeel appeared in the dock beside a translator and was charged with assisting an offender, perverting the course of justice and withholding information.
Newry Magistrates Court heard she had been living with Devidas Paliutis, who is wanted for questioning about the fatal shooting, and has now claimed that the man who she had been living with "concealed a dark secret".
The court was told she has no criminal record in Northern Ireland or in Lithuania and she was released on bail with several conditions
The victim, Dmytro Grytsunov, 29, received a fatal chest wound when shots were fired in the Rooney Park area on Saturday night.
Earlier, detectives were granted an extra 36 hours to question a 28-year-old man who was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the incident.
Another woman of 39 has been released unconditionally.
Three men aged 31, 36 and 26 have been released on police bail.
It is believed a dispute between the two groups of foreigners started and a house was attacked at Haywood Way, Kilkeel at 9pm on Saturday.
The trouble then moved to Rooney Park, where at least two shots were fired in the street.
Now, the police also want to question two other men, including Devidas Paliutis who was freed in error from Maghaberry Prison last autumn and has been on the run since.
