Comedy Movie Underway In Belfast
Belfast-based production company, Generator Entertainment, have began shooting their latest film, siege comedy Whole Lotta Sole in Belfast this month.
Written by Thomas Gallagher and Terry George, who also directs, Whole Lotta Sole stars Hollywood actor Brendan Fraser, Yaya DaCosta, Colm Meaney, David O'Hara and local actor Martin McCann - who recently starred in the Belfast-shot Killing Bono.
The film revolves around Jimbo (McCann) a debt-ridden young man whose misguided attempts to rob a fish market to pay back gambling debts backfires. Turns out the fish market is actually owned by the mobster he owes money to.
On the run from the mobster's heavies, Jimbo is cornered in a local antique shop, where he takes hostage an assortment of oddball characters.
Surrounded by the police, the British guard, and the mobster's crew, the young man must find a way out of his precarious predicament with the help of his colourful captives.
Terry George, whose acclaimed short film The Shore premiered recently at the Belfast Film Festival, is happy to be back on home ground to film his latest feature.
In a recent interview he commented: "It's a great pleasure to be back shooting a film that I think highlights the humour, resilience and spirit of its people in an ultimately uplifting and heart-warming way.
"I want people to laugh and marvel as much as I do when I return to this reborn country and I believe Whole Lotta Sole will do just that, thanks to a wonderful cast and a great local crew," he said.
For Generator producers Simon Bosanquet and Mark Huffam, who were behind Cherrybomb and the recently released Killing Bono, this will be their fifth production in the region since setting up the company in 2008.
Bosanquet commented: "We're thrilled to be working with Terry George in Northern Ireland on this very special film and we're grateful as ever to Northern Ireland Screen for their consistent support and encouragement in our continuing aim to build and maintain a permanent production base here."
Rising star Foy Vance is composing the music for the film, which started shooting on 8th April and is aiming for a winter release later this year.
Writer and director Terry's previous credits include Some Mother's Son, Hotel Rwanda and Reservation Road, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Mark Ruffalo.
