DUP Launch Election Manifesto

The DUP has launched its election manifesto in Belfast's Waterfront Hall.

Party Leader and outgoing First Minister, Peter Robinson, said in his speech that the party's main priority was to keep Northern Ireland "moving in the right direction."

Mr Robinson commented: "The unprecedented level of stability and solidarity in the province must be built upon and the work of uniting the community must continue."

As well as announcing the party's main plans, the leader also announced their intentions to reduce the number of Stormont departments to between six and eight, the number of assembly members per constituency to four or five, and cut the maximum number of MLAs to 80 by the 2015 assembly election.

Other priorities on the agenda include the creation and sustaining of new jobs, negotiating with the government to reduce the rate of corporation tax in Northern Ireland, the introduction of tougher sentences for those who attack the elderly and vulnerable, working towards creating a single education system and bringing greater productivity and efficiency to the health service.
