City Airport continues preparations for BMI arrival
Significant preparations are currently underway by Belfast City Airport for the arrival of BMI British Midland from Belfast International Airport.
This is according to City Airport director John Doran who was speaking at a press conference in Belfast on Wednesday October 10, where he revealed that other improvements were currently in the pipeline to complement BMI’s Heathrow service.
With business users expected to benefit from the move, the airport is preparing for a 50 per cent jump in passenger traffic following BMI’s arrival. The move will also create around 25 new jobs at the airport, while the remaining 160 staff currently at the International Airport will move to the City airport by the end of the month.
However, while British Airways are moving their remaining regional services to the City as well, Mr Doran admitted that low cost competition from EasyJet and Go from the International Airport was a continuing threat.
