Cathedral Quarter Festival Revealed

The highlights from this year's 12th annual Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival have been revealed.

The event, which takes place from April 28 to May 8, features an engaging line-up packed with music, comedy, literature, theatre and visual arts.

Spearheading the event is The Human League, who will appear in the Festival Marquee, Custom House Square on Saturday 30 April 2011. Founders of the 80's new romantic movement, The Human League shot to fame in the early 80s with their inextinguishable hit, Don't You Want Me.

The band reformed in recent years after the resurgence of 80s style and music led to a nostalgic rebirth in the band's popularity.

Meanwhile, respected Alabama folk rock group, Drive By Truckers, are also expected to be a big draw at the festival during their performance on Monday May 2.

Festival organisers claim this year features one of their most vividly diverse casts, and notably fulfilling this edict to its full are stalwart jazz innovators Polar Bear. The group lead by drummer Sebastian Rochford, released their acclaimed fourth album, Peepers, through The Leaf Label in March 2010, and took feature slots on Jools Holland's Later show and Jamie Callum's weekly jazz show on BBC Radio 2.

Apart from their noted band leader Seb, the Mercury-nominated jazz five-piece includes Pete Wareham also of Acoustic Ladyland, Tom Herbert of The Invisible, as well as saxophonist Mark Lockheart who won APPJAG's Musician of the year 2010 last year, as well as electronics innovator and guitarist Leafcutter John.

Other highlights include Dublin dance rock act Bell X1, Dublin-born singer-songwriter James Vincent Mcmorrow, American singer-songwriter John Grant, and Mercury nominated Fionn Regan.

The 12th Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival will take place from 28 April to 8 May 2011, the full programme is launched today and is available at www.cqaf.com.
