Further education and training advice to be combined
Minister for Employment and Learning, Dr Sean Farren, has outlined proposed changes to the external advisory structures for the Department of Education and Learning.
Speaking at a meeting of the Further Education Consultative Committee, Dr Farren said: "The Further Education Consultative Committee has played an important role in terms of the advice and support provided to my Department over the last three years. However, the time is now right to make adjustments to the structures to reflect and complement the new devolved arrangements in Northern Ireland and the emerging strategies of my Department."
Dr Farren added: "It is my intention to bring together the structures which currently exist for the provision of advice on training and further education. The existing Training & Employment Agency Board will, therefore, assume responsibility for the provision of advice on Further Education."
Registering his appreciation, the Minister said he was grateful to all the members of the Further Education Consultative Committee for carrying out their duties with commitment, dedication and enthusiasm over the last three years. (SP)
