A&E Waiting Stats Released

Statistics on the time spent waiting in emergency care departments within Northern Ireland during the month of February 2011 have been published.

The Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety (DHSSPS) carried out the research.

The statistical bulletin presents information on all new and unplanned review attendances during February 2011.

It also details the performance of each HSC Trust and Hospital against the DHSSPS Priorities for Action waiting time target for emergency care departments.

During the February, 76.4% of patients were either treated and discharged or admitted within four hours of their arrival in an emergency care department, compared to 77.5% in January 2011 and 77.8% in December 2010.

A total of 1,338 patients waited longer than 12 hours across all emergency care departments in February 2011, compared to 1,236 in January 2011 and 702 in December 2010.

There were a total of 52,921 attendances at emergency care departments for the month of February 2011, compared with 56,476 in January 2011 and 54,604 in December 2010.

Still More Signing On Dole In NI
Unemployment remains on an upward trend, according to new statistics just issued. The figures released today for the period April - June 2011 show that the Northern Ireland unemployment rate increased over the quarter to 7.3%.

NI's Dole Queue Figure Rises
There has been a rise in the number of people claiming unemployment benefit in NI, but some statistics are confusing. The Labour Force Survey shows the jobless figure fell over the past three months, while another figure, based on the number of people actually signing on the dole, shows another 400 joined the dole queue in May.
